Can we reduce failed Instrumental del. – 2014
This document is a research paper published in the Galle Medical Journal. It discusses the issue of failed instrumental deliveries during childbirth and aims to identify the contributing factors and associated maternal and neonatal morbidity. The study was conducted in the Obstetric Department of St. Richard’s Hospital in the United Kingdom. The results show that a significant number of failed instrumental deliveries were due to the lack of consultant involvement, involvement of junior medical staff, failure to determine the position of the fetal head, and more frequent use of ventouse rather than forceps. The paper recommends structured training for junior staff and the involvement of consultants to optimize the success rate of instrumental delivery.
