Cervical cytology screening – 2017
This document is a research article published in the Sri Lanka Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. It focuses on the knowledge, attitudes, and behavior of Public Health Midwives (PHMM) in an urban district in Sri Lanka regarding cervical cytology screening. The study aims to assess the PHMM’s knowledge on screening methods for cervical carcinoma, their attitudes towards cervical cytology screening, and their screening behavior. The results show that the majority of PHMM have above average knowledge and a positive attitude towards cervical cytology screening, but there is a lack of awareness regarding HPV DNA testing as a screening tool. Additionally, more than one-third of PHMM have not undergone cervical cytology screening themselves. The study concludes that there is a need to update the PHMM’s knowledge through training programs and improve their awareness of emerging screening methods.
